On 16 April 2026, BBF – Bilbao Berrikuntza Faktoria will host “The Social Economy’s Perspective on Today’s Challenges,” a conference bringing together professionals, researchers and organisations from across the Social Economy to discuss the sector’s most pressing challenges.

The event, which will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., forms part of the baSE project and will focus on key issues including digital transformation, the green transition and social inclusion, as well as the sector’s skills needs and the role of governance in building organisations that are more sustainable, competitive and inclusive.

The conference will be opened by Elena Pérez Barredo, Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Security of the Basque Government. Ane Sánchez-Zeziaga, professor and researcher at Mondragon Unibertsitatea, will then introduce the baSE project through a presentation entitled “Skills Challenges and Training Needs in the Social Economy.” This will be followed by a keynote address from Gianluca Salvatori, Secretary General of Euricse, who will discuss the importance of developing workforce skills to meet Europe’s three major transitions.

The programme will also feature three practical case studies showcasing different areas of the Social Economy:

  • Givit Delivery Coop, focusing on sustainable last-mile delivery;
  • Ondoan S. Coop, presenting its work on training and the green transition; and
  • Fundación Ausolan, exploring how managing diverse talent can become a driver of long-term sustainability.

The event will conclude with a roundtable discussion on governance and intercooperation, bringing together experts in digital transformation, sustainability and inclusion, followed by closing remarks from ASETT Director Iñigo Albizuri.

The conference offers an opportunity to share knowledge, encourage dialogue and strengthen the role of the Social Economy in responding to today’s social and economic challenges.
