In a global context shaped by profound social, environmental and technological transformations, strategic foresight has become an essential tool for anticipating future scenarios and supporting long-term decision-making. Against this backdrop, ASETT has recently taken part in a series of international academic events across Latin America, contributing to knowledge exchange and strengthening international networks focused on sustainability and the governance of the future.
These activities featured the participation of Ibon Zugasti, ASETT’s Head of Foresight, who spoke at several academic forums dedicated to the analysis of global scenarios. During these events, he presented the latest developments in social and environmental sustainability and shared ASETT’s approach as a Think + Do Tank, highlighting its role as a strategic platform that integrates knowledge, foresight and action to develop solutions to the major challenges of the 21st century.
One of the key events took place at the Universidad Externado de Colombia, where the first findings on social and environmental sustainability were presented as part of international initiatives led by The Millennium Project, a global network dedicated to identifying humanity’s most pressing challenges and promoting evidence-based solutions.
The session explored critical issues including the energy transition, the development of the bioeconomy, sustainable mobility and the fight against deforestation—all strategic priorities for advancing development models that combine economic growth with environmental sustainability.
The discussions highlighted that, while scientific evidence points to significant future risks, viable solutions already exist and can be implemented today. Participants emphasised the importance of strengthening political will and institutional cooperation to build the consensus needed to advance long-term sustainable development.
Academic Dialogue and Opportunities for Cooperation in Ecuador
The agenda also included participation in meetings at IAEN University (Ecuador), where ASETT engaged in discussions with academic leaders to explore new opportunities for international cooperation.
These meetings focused on potential areas of collaboration aimed at strengthening educational programmes in global governance through a strategic foresight perspective, helping to prepare future professionals to understand the complexity of the international landscape and anticipate emerging challenges.
